Gemotions

Dust motes danced in the sunbeams that sliced through the gaps in the blinds. Leo felt his stomach twist, each rhythmic bang a physical blow. He buried his face deeper into the pillow, trying to block out the relentless noise. The renovation project next door had begun, and with it, a creeping anxiety that settled in his bones. His normally steady hands were now trembling as he went to make his coffee.

He jumped at the sudden, sharp crack of wood splitting. He had a tight feeling inside him that wouldn't go away. He wanted nothing more than to curl up in a ball and disappear. He imagined the dust, the disruption, the constant lack of peace. His shoulders were scrunched up, his neck muscles rigid. He rubbed his temples with his fingertips, willing the pressure to ease, the noise to stop.
